La Hattam! Songs of Love and Laughter

La Hattam in concert with associate artist, pianist Nerissa Pearce, will perform ‘art songs’, poems set to music where the composer ‘paints a picture’ of what the poet might have envisioned.

Comic Soprano Janet Hattam says: “The art of writing art song is in the sensitivity with which a composer responds to the imagery and feeling conveyed in the poetic text.”

“Art song was also established within specific national traditions. The German Lied and the French mélodie being the most significant and influential”, she said.

The performance will feature songs from revered 19th Century composers such as Claude Debussy, Franz Lisz, and Francis Poulenc, as well as the 20th Century Benjamin Britten, Irving Berlin and Cole Porter. It will also include music by comedy geniuses Dudley Moore, Hugh Laurie and Flanders & Swann.

Gallery Director Fulvia Mantelli says: “With the success of Bird / Song as part of the 2023 Murray Bridge Fringe, the Vicki Nottage Gallery space proved to have beautiful sound quality for intimate acoustic concerts.”

“We’re looking forward to experiencing La Hattam! Songs of Love and Laughter and sharing the gallery space in different ways with audiences”.

Cost: General admission $25 / Concession $20 / Student $10
